How to use the Minecraft circle generator

Sphere and dome block counts
These are hollow shells with a one-block wall, which is what most builders need. They’re useful when you’re gathering materials before you start. A dome is the top half of the sphere, so it needs a little over half the blocks.

How to build a circle in Minecraft
Minecraft has no curved blocks, so every circle is really a staircase that looks round from a distance. The trick is to make the steps even. That’s what a blueprint gives you, and it’s why the same few numbers keep showing up in every good circle.
Start at the middle. Stand where you want the center of the build and drop a marker block. With an odd diameter that’s one block. With an even diameter, mark the four blocks that share the middle corner.
Next, place four markers at the centers of the four sides of the square that will hold the circle. Opposite markers should sit exactly one diameter apart, counting both end blocks. Those markers are the middle of each flat edge.
Now work along the rows. Each row in the guide tells you how many blocks to skip and how many to place. Build one quarter first, check it against the grid, then mirror it into the other three. Because the shape is symmetrical, a mistake in one quarter shows up immediately when you compare it with its twin.
Here are the top rows of a 15-block outline circle, exactly as the generator writes them:

Rows 9 to 15 repeat rows 7 down to 1 in reverse order, so only the top half needs working out. The same numbers also describe the left and right sides if you read the grid by columns.
Tips for cleaner curves
- Choose an odd diameter when you can. A single center block makes doors, stairs and pillars easier to line up.
- Lay the outline in cheap scaffold blocks first. Swap in your final material once the shape looks right from every side.
- Turn on coordinates. On Java Edition press F3. On Bedrock, switch on Show Coordinates in the world settings.
- Keep the wall thickness the same on every layer of a dome, or the curve will look lumpy from inside.
- Use the mark tool on the grid to track progress on big builds, and download the PNG so you can check it without alt-tabbing.
Circle, oval, sphere or dome?
- Circle
- A flat ring or disc. Good for tower footprints, arenas, fountains, plazas and ponds.
- Oval
- A circle stretched along one axis. Set the width and height separately for ellipse-shaped lakes, stadiums and rooms.
- Sphere
- A ball built from stacked circles that grow and shrink. Use the layer slider to see each slice.
- Dome
- The top half of a sphere. It works for roofs, observatories, greenhouses and biodomes.
Which diameter should I choose?
- Watchtowers and spires
- 7 to 15 blocks across is a comfortable range.
- Ponds and fountains
- 9 to 21 blocks, filled, looks natural without taking long.
- Greenhouses and observatories
- A dome between 21 and 41 blocks leaves room for a proper interior.
- Arenas and colosseums
- 41 to 101 blocks, usually with a 2 or 3 block wall.
- Planets and giant orbs
- 64 to 128 blocks for a sphere. Expect to gather a lot of blocks first.

How many blocks do I need for a circle?
A filled circle uses roughly 0.79 times the diameter squared. A one-block outline uses roughly 2.7 to 2.8 times the diameter. The size chart on this page lists exact counts for common diameters, and the generator shows the exact total for any size you choose.
Can I make an oval or ellipse?
Yes. Choose Oval and set the width and height separately. The generator uses the same method as for circles, so the curve stays smooth and symmetrical.
Can WorldEdit make circles for me?
On Java Edition with WorldEdit installed, commands such as //cyl, //hcyl, //sphere and //hsphere build cylinders and spheres directly. Bedrock Edition has no built-in equivalent, so a blueprint like this is the practical option there.
What is the largest size I can generate?
Circles and ovals go up to 256 blocks across. Spheres and domes go up to 128 blocks across, which is already a very large build.
Is my data saved or uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your settings are never uploaded. They are kept only in the page address, so you can copy a link to share the same blueprint.
